A true showstopper in any freshwater aquarium, the Platinum Veiltail Angelfish features a gleaming white body with long, flowing fins that ripple gracefully with every movement. This selectively bred variety of Pterophyllum scalare is known for its elegant appearance and peaceful, inquisitive nature. Tank-bred for hardiness and adaptability, this angelfish thrives in community setups with gentle tank mates and a well-planted environment.

What We Love About This Fish:

Brilliant Platinum Coloration: Striking metallic white body shines under aquarium lighting.
Elegant Fins: Extra-long veil fins add motion and beauty to any aquascape.
Peaceful Personality: Generally calm and social—great for community tanks with compatible fish.
Hardy and Adaptable: Tank-bred specimens do well in a variety of water parameters.

Natural Habitat:

While the wild ancestors of angelfish come from the slow-moving, heavily vegetated tributaries of the Amazon Basin, this platinum variant has been selectively bred in captivity. It still appreciates warm, calm waters with plenty of vertical swimming space and tall plants for cover.

Aquascaping:

Plants: Amazon Sword, Vallisneria, Java Fern, and other tall or broad-leaved plants.
Hardscape: Use smooth river stones, vertical driftwood, and tall structures.
Botanicals: Indian Almond Leaves and Catappa Bark can provide tannins and a more natural feel.

Diet and Feeding:

An omnivore by nature, the Platinum Veiltail Angelfish will readily accept high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. A varied diet helps maintain its health, coloration, and fin development.

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Best kept with peaceful community fish of similar size. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species such as barbs. Good companions include peaceful tetras, corydoras, peaceful gouramis, and larger rasboras.

Not Shrimp Safe:

May be safe with adult shrimp but may eat small shrimp or shrimp fry. Provide dense plant cover and hiding spots if housed together.

Breeding:

Angelfish are egg layers and form monogamous pairs. They will typically lay eggs on vertical surfaces such as broad plant leaves or aquarium glass. In a well-maintained tank, breeding is possible, especially if a bonded pair is formed.

Recommended Tank Parameters:

Temperature: 75° - 82° F (23.8° - 27.7° C)
pH: 6.5 – 7.5
KH: 3 – 8 dKH
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons for a pair, 30+ gallons for a small group

Care Guidelines:

Diet: Omnivorous; feed high-quality flakes and supplement with frozen or live foods.
Social Behavior: Generally peaceful; best in groups or bonded pairs.
Origin: Tank-bred
Average Adult Size: 5 – 6 inches (12.7 – 15.2 cm) body length, fins can extend longer
Average Purchase Size: 1.5 – 2.5 inches (3.8 – 6.3 cm)

Looking for a graceful centerpiece with shimmering beauty and long, flowing fins? The Platinum Veiltail Angelfish is the perfect addition to a peaceful planted aquarium.
