While most Japanese Maples flourish in Zone 5, the Northern Glow is resilient in Zone 4, making it ideal for landscapes around the Chicago area. With its graceful, upright, and wide-spreading branches, this tree boasts lush green leaves in summer, which transform into a stunning palette of bright red-orange to deep red hues in the fall. Northern Glow® Maple should be thoughtfully positioned in your landscape to maximize its beauty and protect it. Although this tree is more resilient and cold-hardy than many Japanese Maples, it thrives best when planted in a sheltered area near your home. Consider placing it on the eastern side of buildings and structures to shield it from strong winds. It works well as an understory planting alongside tall shade trees such as Oak, Kentucky Coffee Tree, or Hackberry. Ideal locations for this tree include gardens, courtyards, or landscape beds that anchor your home.

What it needs:

Northern Glow® Maple thrives best in dappled shade rather than direct sunlight, which can lead to leaf scorch. While it requires protection from strong winds, it remains adaptable. Promote a strong & healthy root system, and adhere to our tree care instructions during the initial growing seasons.
