Common Name: Java Fern Windelov, Microsorum Pteropus, Leptochilus pteropus

Java Fern Windelov 'Hybrid' is a unique cultivar that combines traits from both classic Windelov and Coral. This aquarium fern features fatter leaves with split tips that branch outwards. The splitting appears to be randomized, resulting in an organic look that's perfect for aquascaping and planted tanks. Alternatively, its bushy foliage would work great in terrarium-like setups where humidity is elevated!

Like other Java Fern plants, Windelov 'Hybrid' is a hardy, beginner-friendly choice. It thrives in low to medium light and is adaptable to a wide range of water parameters. It grows best when attached directly to driftwood, rocks or any aquarium decor and would make a great addition to any low tech planted tank. To avoid damaging the plant, keep the rhizome above substrate and place it in a spot with good flow. Propagation is easy and straightforward; when the plant is ready, simply cut or pull apart rhizomes to be attached as desired.

Notes:

  • Java Ferns grow best when attached to aquascaping hardscape like driftwood and stones. These plants propagate through its leaves. Dots on the underside of its leaves are normal and are not a cause for concern.
  • Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant.
  • Remove the cotton surrounding the roots before planting. For instructions on how to properly prep aquarium plants, click here.
  • Burying the rhizome will cause the plant to die
  • CO2 injection will yield better growth.
  • Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.
