Role Summary

Role Purpose
Implement and execute agreed mine plan, manage the production portion of the open pit mine in a cost effective, safe and environmentally responsible manner.
Key Accountabilities
Coordinate and control mining equipment to optimise production flows.
Manage the contractors performance to produce and dispatch ore of the required quality, in a safe environment
Monitor and control appropriate quality standards- dilution, ore loss, geotechnical, mill feed, operating level, pit and dump design.
Dispatch daily mine production fleet including ancillary equipment as per 48 hour mine plan.
Take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of all personnel including contractors working within the mining area.
Manage, coordinate and complete all works for the following contractors; AMS and AEL.
Develop continuous improvement strategies and communicate and apply accordingly.
Monitor availability and utilisation of the contractors equipment.
Assisting in the development and submission of the operational budgets.
Carry out any other adhoc production related requests as necessary.
Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness. Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the team.
Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in Yanfolila’s mining activities, consistent with Hummingbirds Community Relations Policies.
Become actively involved in Hummingbirds aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people. Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business.
Prepare and manage the budget for the function.
Ensure the development and maintenance of up to date job procedures for all tasks performed within the function.
Ensure effective communication with delegate prior to departure from site.
Be visible in the workplace.
Key Duties/Tasks
Safety
Ensure personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures applying at Yanfolila.
Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and implement change as directed by the General Manager and management team.
Actively promote, monitor and enforce compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company policy and statutory requirements and all recommended corrective actions are completed.
All employees are responsible for:
Identifying the risks in their work area and using the correct controls.
Reporting to the Supervisor immediately any actual or potential unsafe conditions or activities, mishaps, incidents, accidents, injuries or illnesses in the work place.
Assisting new employees in the application of the proper work procedures and practices.
Using personal protective clothing or equipment as provided.
Reporting any defective or damaged personal protective clothing, equipment, or gear, and returning the item to the Supervisor for replacement or repair.
Complying with instructions given pertaining to the use of personal protective clothing, equipment or gear or any matter in relation to health and safety
Not interfering with anything that has been provided in the interest of health and safety in the workplace.
Not engaging in any duties that require a certificate or written authorisation unless the relevant certificate or permit is held.
Not attempting any task unless they are trained, capable and competent to safely perform the task.
Cooperating fully with any rehabilitation program to assist recovery from injury or illness for themselves or any other person.
Environment

Reporting all environmental incidents to supervisor after implementing immediate corrective action.

Employee Development
Develop and maintain a team structure that adheres to Hummingbirds Organisational Framework policy, enables teamwork and personal development while focusing on the achievement of results.
Ensure training and coaching is provided to all employees, with specific attention to National and Local employees as part of the Company’s Training and Localisation Plan.
Ensure all members of the team have clearly defined accountabilities and roles and that individual development plans are in place to enable goals to be achieved.
Ensure all members of the team receive feedback on their performance and participate in formal performance review processes.
Develop a succession plan for direct report roles.
Planning and Scheduling
Assist the Management – in a support role with regards the management of mine plan and scheduling of equipment.
Work with the contractors and supervisor to achieve production and cost targets in conjunction with the daily, weekly and monthly mining plans that correspond with the annual production target
Cascade plan and objectives through the team to ensure all activities are focused on agreed outcomes and reflected in the short-term mine plans.
Systems
Develop and manage systems to enable the achievement of the Yanfolila’s targets. Where site-wide or corporate systems exist, implement these to suit the objectives and needs of Yanfolila’s operations. Systems include:

Review and improve systems based on the monitoring, reporting and improvement ideas of direct reports and teams.
Financial
Review capital requirements prepared by direct reports and submit for approval.
Review functional expenditure on a monthly basis and ensure all variances to budget are investigated and explained.
Identify specific areas for cost improvement and ensure the development and implementation of action plans to achieve these gains.
Coordinate compilation of the annual functional budget.
Reporting
Review and monitor all safety, service level and financial performance indicators for the function and initiate corrective action where necessary.
Deliver reports to the Department Manager on agreed performance indicators and to agreed standards and schedule.
Key Role Qualifications Required:

Degree in Mining Engineering
Key Skills & Experience Required
Work Knowledge:
Significant experience (10 years) in the open pit mining industry of which 5 years or more must be in a senior supervisory role
Experience in large multi pit operations.
Able to clearly demonstrate the aptitude to drive a light vehicle and hold a current Malian drivers licence or be able to obtain one.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to understand local culture and impart your mining operations and technical knowledge to the local Malian mine operations personnel.
Competent in incident/accident investigation
Commitment to training of national citizens
Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry.
Experience in managing costs and budgeting
Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas

Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
