Purpose of the position:

The role of the Advocacy Coordinator is to manage advocacy work across all Project R2G locations in Mali delivering on R2G advocacy strategic. It aim to ensure structured dialogue led by CSOs on the one hand to engage decision-makers in the improvement of policies and the implementation of consequent actions, and on the other hand to sensitize populations to adopt attitudes and behaviors favourable to nutrition, food security and washing in Project relevant areas, Koulikoro and Sikasso and relevant circles and communes.

Major Responsibilities:

1 Organize and engage local CSOs with government and local communities for improved and effective coordination of basic social services;
2 Contribute to the use of an online multi-sectoral platform by CSOs and decision-makers for monitoring commitments and achievements in the nutrition sectors – WASH and food security
3 Support CSOs to bring state institutions and technical structures involved in the budget planning chain to improve the share of the nutrition – WASH and food security sectors in the state budget;
5 Support communal CSOs and communities to engage communal decision-makers to take into account community needs in the nutrition, WASH and food security sectors in budget planning and execution;

Ensure that CSOs and communities organize themselves around Citizen Watch Committees to engage decision-makers in accountability in the nutrition, food security and WASH areas.
7 Build capacity and raise awareness among citizens on their rights and duties in relation to nutrition, food security and WASH;
8 Support CSOs and communities to organize themselves to promote good practices in the area of nutrition, food security and WASH including performance and the promotion of mutual benefit societies.
10 Organize and engage local CSOs with government and local communities for improved and effective coordination of basic social services;
11 Contribute to the use of an online multi-sectoral platform by CSOs and decision-makers for monitoring commitments and achievements in the nutrition sectors – WASH and food security
12 Implement, advocacy strategy focusing on issues of WASH, Nutrition and food security
13 Promote & foster relationships and collaborations with other Stakeholders;
14 Represent R2G in dialogue with external stakeholders on WASH, Nutrition and food security concerns requiring advocacy engagement, and community engagement;
15 Build relationships and collaborations with relevant actors …);
16 Lead and actively participate in advocacy initiatives of the INGO Forum, supports R2G Project Manager Engagement with the INGO Forum as necessary;
17 Leverage partnerships with peer agencies, governments to scale advocacy for improved WASH, Nutrition and Food Security services and programs for people affected;
18 Coordinate and develop policy evidence and advocacy messaging to influence action by external stakeholders on Project priorities;
19 Consistently works with communication actors to provide evidence, messaging and action items to external stakeholders, including media, on R2G priorities;
20 Oversee the provision of advocacy training and awareness to OSC and stakeholders as necessary.

Qualifications:  Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Master’s Degree in Development or another relevant field (Human Rights, Law, Psychology or Political Science, Journalism or Communication/Media) or a Bachelor’s Degree with relevant work experience;
  • Excellent research, problem solving, policy analysis and writing/verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent understanding of National Policies on WASH, Nutrition and Food security and initiatives such as SUN (Scaling up Nutrition Movement), REACH, 1000 Days and Alive & Thrive, the Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) Partnership;
  • Experiences in networking and building coalitions;
  • At least 3-5 years of progressive work experience in advocacy in an NGO environment, with experience in successfully leading implementation of advocacy strategies;
  • Experience of working in humanitarian contexts and knowledge of key trends in the humanitarian sector;
  • Good understanding of WASH, Nutrition and Food Security policies and initiatives such as SUN (Scaling up Nutrition Movement), REACH, 1000 Days and Alive & Thrive, the Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) Partnership.
  • Excellent French is required.

 

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Field-based with frequent travel inside the country.
  • Travel: 30% travel within country to various responses is expected.
